Conceptually, using random generators to gather words, images, and phrases introduces an element of chance and unpredictability to the creative process and the final work. Taking the “random” generations, and imputing the data into ai image generators uses machine learning techniques to interpret and transform the input data into visual representations. This phase of the creative process bridges the gap between randomness and control as ai algorithms provide structure and form to the random data created in the first part of this process. After generating the AI imagery, I introduce glitch techniques. Glitch art is introducing errors, artifacts, and unexpected alternations using various image corruption techniques including accidental, intentional, fake, and hybrid glitches. Using a glitching method, I am causing purposeful disruptions in the artwork's visual integrity. The malfunction and error were created to add an element of experimentation and unpredictability to the process while pushing the binderies of traditional art aesthetics.
The back-and-forth iteration between AI image generation and glitching techniques is where the artistic vision takes shape. The refining and experimenting with imagery blurs the lines between human intention, randomness, and machine and human creativity. This process highlights the role of artists as collaborators, and curators, with AI and chance. It challenges the conventional notions of control and authorship in art, as I must embrace the unpredictability and chance as integral elements of this creative process. This work discovers unexpected beauty in the juxtaposition of mistakes and malfunctions created by the randomness of the glitch.
