During Nancy’s talk I was really interested in her talking about her relationship with the multi space. I felt like the combination of drawing, 2-D drawing, and augmented reality it was such an interesting way to think about space in relationship with creating art. It had me thinking about how augmented reality lives in a separate space that we don’t necessarily always have access to but it’s always there. Augmented reality and virtual space feels like ghost art. I also appreciate it when she mentioned the art of the prompt. This had me thinking about how prompting in artificial intelligence is the creative practice in process similarly to pick up a paintbrush and pushing on paint on a canvas.
Her studio visit with me was very informative as she had lots of good readings for me to think about in relation to the work that I am making using AI. Some of these include ways of being, cyborg manifesto, psycho politics, techno feudalism. For work and reflecting on how she is using a tool to critique certain ideas (especially relating to land) but uses energy to use the tool. I have a lot of conversations with people about being implicated when we use certain tools, but I think we’re all implicated all the time in all of our choices. Artist sort of like to draw a line of where they are ok being implicated. But all art making and tools in the process can be negatively impactful to the environment.
