Brainstorm blog project #3
Idea one:
I’m brainstorming a more conceptual artwork that involves questioning the importance, or lack of importance of Painting relating to the human experience in the age of artificial intelligence. The idea relates to key themes such as time, human experience, creativity and authorship. My idea is to take a AI generated artwork and paint it exactly as it is with the exact same dimensions. I would then have the AI generated artwork that is either a digital print or on a screen directly on top of the Painting so that the Painting cannot be seen(only from the sides). By juxtaposing the AI generated artwork with traditional painting depicting the exact same subject matter I’m contemplating the essence of creativity and the role of human agency in artistic expression. It encourages reflection on fundamental questions about the nature of art and the distinction between human and machine creativity. Is Painting necessary? Choosing to paint in the age of artificial intelligence highlights the importance of the process rather than the outcome, the human experience rather than the output. By placing the ai generated artwork over the traditional painting I am challenging the traditional notion of authorship and originality and art. I’m blurring the boundary between creator and creation, questioning whether the active painting is inherently human or if machines can also be considered artist in their own right. By raising questions about the necessity of Painting in a world where machines can paint, I’m trying to stimulate dialogue on the future of art and evolving role of artist in relation to emerging technologies. I want to double down on my interest in the increasingly intertwined relationship between art and artificial intelligence prompting viewers to consider the impact of our advancements on artistic practices. I have constantly challenged myself with considering the importance of painting or whether it is important at all if artificial intelligence can paint. Does the act of painting by hand give a piece with more inherent value or authenticity compared to or generated by AI algorithms? Can AI generated artwork possess the same level of originality as a human created Painting ?
Questions with this idea – if I’m painting an image that also tells the story, what is it? What would be the most effective thing to paint that can tell the story in addition to the way I’m combining both the artwork and the painting? I’m not sure what it should be and I think that talking it through with you would be extremely helpful. What do you think about this idea in general?
